Press FAQ
After four years I'm getting fairly accustomed to dealing with the press. I'm finding the same questions coming up repeatedly, though, so this is a special Press FAQ.
I have no need to be on television or see my name in print - none. I'm not doing these interviews to seek any kind of recognition and I get absolutely nothing out of them personally. In fact, they are very stressful to me and take a lot of energy - I'm largely an introvert. It's no skin off my nose to cancel an interview, and if you push me or haven't bothered to do your research before approaching me I won't speak to you. Period.
- Will I still do interviews?
Yes, if you're with a reputable (meaning non-tabloid) organization and you are not seeking to do a sensationalized story.
- How should you contact me?
Send email explaining who you are and what organization you're with. I'll check. Make sure you've included a number where you can be reached - preferably a toll-free number. I don't give out my telephone number easily.
- When am I available for interviews?
That depends on our family's very busy schedule. I won't cancel or reschedule family activities to do interviews, so the window is small - contact me well in advance, please.
- Can you interview or film Katie?
No, don't even ask. In fact, you may not speak with or film Katie or any other member of my family - just me. I've chosen to speak out on this issue - they haven't. And I will not bring additional stress into Katie's life or expose her to any further danger. More than one story has been cancelled because a reporter pressed me on this issue.
- Can you film in our home/my office/Katie's school etc.?
No. You can't film in or near our home, my place of business, our church, our homeschool support group playdates, etc. and you won't be showing any of our vehicles on camera, either.
- Will I give you copies of various legal documentation?
I will be happy to show you the documentation I have, but I would strongly prefer that you obtain your own copies from the courts - it's more credible that way, as there's absolutely no way I could have altered anything. I'm sure you have better resources to get them than I do, anyway.
- I can't work with those restrictions!
Then please contact WHOA about interviewing Jayne Hitchcock. She's far more readily available than I am.
